Tiling in Brussels: 2026 trends and installation tips to enhance your interior

Are you planning to renovate your floors or walls in Brussels? Choosing tiles is a decision that will have a lasting impact on the aesthetics and value of your property. At Akdeniz Deco Brussels, specialists in tiles, sanitary ware and home décor for many years, we support both private individuals and building professionals with their most ambitious projects.

Why tiles remain the no. 1 flooring in Brussels?

In a city like Brussels, where architectural styles blend — from Art Nouveau to contemporary buildings — tiles stand out as the most versatile flooring. They offer unmatched durability, valuable ease of maintenance in wet rooms, and an aesthetic richness that few other materials can match. Whether you live in Ixelles, Uccle, Etterbeek, Schaerbeek or central Brussels, our teams understand the specific requirements of every type of property — Haussmannian apartments, stately homes or new builds.

Major tile trends in 2026

Large format: the king of space. 60x120 cm, 80x80 cm or even 120x120 cm tiles continue to dominate the market. These large formats visually reduce grout lines, make rooms appear larger and bring a decidedly modern touch to your interiors.

Concrete-effect and wood-effect tiles. The "imitation natural materials" trend shows no signs of weakening. Concrete-effect porcelain stoneware appeals with its industrial, sleek look and is ideal for open-plan kitchens and contemporary bathrooms. Wood-effect tiles, meanwhile, offer the visual warmth of parquet with the moisture resistance of tiles — perfect for Brussels bathrooms and conservatories.

Cement tiles and vintage style. The return of patterned tiles, inspired by traditional cement tiles, meets a strong demand for personalization. These graphic designs, often in 20x20 or 15x15 cm, add character and originality to entrances, kitchens or shower rooms.

Neutral and earthy tones. Beige, greige, terracotta, warm grey: the 2025 palettes are moving away from pure white to embrace more organic shades that harmonize with overall décor trends.

Practical tips for a successful installation

Installing tiles is not something to be taken lightly. Here are the essential points to master, whether you hire a professional or undertake the work yourself.

Carefully prepare your substrate. A floor or wall must be clean, dry, flat and stable. A defective screed or damp wall is the leading cause of premature debonding. Do not hesitate to hire a professional tiler for complex surfaces — our teams can recommend trusted tradesmen in the Brussels area.

Choose the right adhesive mortar. Depending on the type of tile (porcelain stoneware, marble, ceramic) and the substrate (concrete, existing tiles, plasterboard), the choice of adhesive is crucial. At Akdeniz Deco, our advisors will guide you to the products best suited to your project.

Think about the grout. The width and colour of the grout lines significantly influence the final result. A narrow joint (1 to 2 mm) creates a continuous, modern effect, while a wider joint can highlight traditional-style tiles. The choice of grout colour can also radically transform the final appearance of your installation.

Allow for thermal expansion. All tile installations must incorporate expansion joints, especially for large areas, underfloor-heated spaces or outdoor areas subject to temperature fluctuations.
